South Beach Tow's Christie Ashenoff on Tonight's Premiere, Producer Jennifer ... - Miami New Times (blog)

Christie.jpg
As Miami New Times has chronicled life in the Magic City through the years, we've made some enemies. We have busted police officers, spread the word on crooked politicians, and even called out one of the world's biggest bloggers.

The TruTV reality series South Beach Tow hasn't been safe from our scrutiny, either. When it hit the airwaves in July of 2011, we dubbed it "the worst reality show ever." But America's viewers do not agree. South Beach Tow is the second highest rated program on the network. (And this writer counts herself among its fans.)

So with the premiere of the show's new season tonight, we chatted with one of its biggest stars, Christie Ashenoff, who's hosting a meet-and-greet party at South Beach Tiki Bar tonight. You know her as the self-proclaimed "wildly tattooed daughter" who tells the drivers which cars to tow -- and who has the dubious pleasure of dealing with the irate drivers when they come to collect their vehicles. She told us about the worst incidents at Tremont Towing, addressed allegations that the show is scripted, and even talked a little trash about New Times. (We guess we had it coming.)

Cultist: I am shocked you were willing to talk to us after all the smack we talked about your show.
Christie Ashenoff: Hey, no worries. You guys might hate our show, but I love your paper. I actually check
MiamiNewTimes.com daily. But let's be honest: How seriously can I take a site that wrote up the Real Housewives of Miami every day last week?

Touché. Let's get down to business: Did you grow up here in South Florida?
Yep, Miami Beach. I have been here my whole life. There's literally nowhere else I'd rather live. The culture, the people, the nightlife, everything; I love it here.

Christie3.jpg
I have to know -- How did South Beach Tow come about?
We towed Simon Fields, Jennifer Lopez's right hand man, and he was less than pleased with us over it. Like, really less than pleased. He tells us that a few days later a light bulb went off in his head that if he lost his mind, that everyone else must too. The rest is history.

Have you ever had the pleasure of meeting executive producer Jennifer Lopez?
I have not, but I'm hoping to. Her schedule is insane. The timing of our show, then her time on Idol, then touring with Enrique Iglesias. But she did invite us to her concert in Miami a few weeks ago and it was phenomenal.

How long have you worked at Tremont Towing?
Roughly nine years.

Ben Affleck on JLO and 'Gigli': Worst Year of my Life - Fox News

What a blast from the past!

Jennifer Lopez’s ex Ben Affleck says the year he was with the Puerto Rican superstar and filmed “Gigli” was probably the worst of his life.

Ouch!

In an in-depth interview for Details magazine’s October issue, the Hollywood actor/director, who is getting praise for his new film “Argo,” says back in 2003 he hit rock bottom.

“If you were looking at that one-liner on me in 2003, [it] was definitely the annus horribilis,” Affleck told the publication.

“In our culture, we get very much into shorthanding people,” he added. “I got shorthanded as That Guy: Jennifer Lopez, movies bombed, therefore he must be a sort of thoughtless dilettante, solipsistic consumer blahblahblah. It's hard to shake those sort of narratives.”

Affleck, who has settled down with fellow “Daredevil” actress Jennifer Garner, with whom he has three children, says looking back he’s learned the importance of finding “your compass,” both professionally and personally.

“People bring up 2003, and I get it. Jennifer Lopez, and 'Gigli,' and all this s**t just kind of blew up!” Affleck said. “A lot can happen. And a lot has for me.”

He says his Bennifer days “feel like ancient history.”

“I made a bunch of movies that didn't work [and] I was ending up in the tabloids. I liked ‘Sum of All Fears.’ ‘Daredevil’ I didn't at all," he said. "Some movies should have worked and didn't.”

The Massachusetts native says he used directing as an escape route to the intense media scrutiny of his love life and his career.

“I just said, I don't want to do it anymore. This is horrible. I don't want to be in this spotlight, this glare, in this way. It's tawdry, it's ugly, it's oppressive, and it's inane," Affleck said. "So I'm going to try to get away.”

As for JLO, the starlet has been recently talking about her artistic evolution as well as her former flames and current boyfriend, Casper Smart.

“You know when you are young you don’t think about things. You just go through them,” Lopez told Katie Couric in an interview last week. “Then later you look back and you think ‘What the…did that happen?”

“It takes time to get there as women,” she added in reference to finding a healthy relationship. “We are just trying to do it right. Like everyone else.”

Lopez, 43, who began dating Smart, 25, soon after announcing her divorce to salsa crooner Marc Anthony last year, says age is not an issue for her and her main squeeze.

“It’s hard for me to think of my age because I don’t feel any different from when I first started in the business," she said. "I feel very youthful.”

She said she feels comfortable in her own skin.

“It’s funny, until somebody brings it up I don’t think we think about it," she said. "We are just two people with similar interests and love a lot of the same things.”

Jennifer Lopez was here in Atlanta late last month to perform at Philips Arena with Enrique Iglesias.

(Here’s the concert review my colleague Melissa Ruggieri wrote after the show. And here’s a gallery of photos from the performance.)

Lopez is no stranger to Atlanta, having spent some time here last year filming the ensemble comedy “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.”

Looks like J-Lo had time for a little fun during her more recent visit to town, during a family visit to the Georgia Aquarium. Here they are meeting harbor seals.

Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About Divorcing Marc Anthony - Opposing Views

Jennifer Lopez recently opened up about her divorce from ex Marc Anthony to Katie Couric on her new show Katie, according to UsMagazine.com. The duo were married in 2004 and have twins together â€" Emme and Max. “You never want to break up a family,” Lopez confessed in regards to coming to the conclusion that it was time to file for divorce. She thought very carefully, especially since the pair has two children. The former partners are doing their best to co-parent, even though they are no longer together. “We love our kids and we have love for each other,” she revealed in regards to her current relationship with her ex. The star is currently dating Casper Smart, a choreographer who is 18 years her junior.

What are some things to consider before getting a divorce?

Cupid’s Advice:

Calling it quits on a marriage and filing for a divorce is a tough decision to make. Here are some things to keep in mind before taking that route:

1. A brighter future: Divorces are absolutions to marriages, which is a huge step. Make sure that you’re not just looking for an easy way out. If times are hard, they may get better in time. For better or worse and there might be better days in the future.

2. The repercussions: If there are children involved, especially younger children, it’s not going to be easy. Custody battles ensue as well as splitting money and properties. Make sure that you are prepared to deal with what is to come.

3. Communicate: Does your partner know how you are feeling? If you are sensing problems in your marriage, before filing for divorce see if they have similar views. Try to work things out before calling it quits.

[Gossip] Ben Affleck Says Dating Jennifer Lopez Was The Lowest Point Of His Life - 411mania.com

[Gossip] Ben Affleck Says Dating Jennifer Lopez Was The Lowest Point Of His Life
Posted by Joseph Lee on 09.18.2012

He made some bad choices...

In an interview with Details magazine, Ben Affleck said that the time period in which he dated Jennifer Lopez was the lowest point in his life. Here are highlights:

On the lowest point in his life and career: "In our culture, we get very much into shorthanding people. And I got shorthanded as That Guy: Jennifer Lopez, movies bombed, therefore he must be a sort of thoughtless dilettante, solipsistic consumer blahblahblah. It's hard to shake those sort of narratives. If you were looking at that one-liner on me in 2003, which was definitely the annus horribilis [laughs] of my lifeâ€"it's funny how that rhymes with Sacha Baron Cohen's pronunciation of "ah-noose"â€""

On the movies he selected then: "I made a bunch of movies that didn't work. I was ending up in the tabloids. I don't know what the lesson is, except that you just have to find your compass. I liked Sum of All Fears. Daredevil I didn't at all. Some movies should have worked and didn't. At a certain point, it's just up to the movie gods. Anyway, this image becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. And I just said, 'I don't want to do it anymore. This is horrible. I don't want to be in this spotlight, this glare, in this way. It's tawdry, it's ugly, it's oppressive, and it's inane. So I'm going to try to get away.'

And most of the way I did that was by not acting. I said, 'I'm going to steer myself toward directing. I'm going to do something that takes me toward a place where the work that I do is reflective of what I think is interesting dramatically.' People bring up 2003, and I get it. Jennifer Lopez, and Gigli, and all this shit just kind of blew up. But, you know, in 2003, Barack Obama was a state senator in Illinois! Okay?"

On his latest film Argo: "That was the toughest thing. I thought, "This is my third movieâ€"I have confidence that I know how to shoot, I know good actors, and the script is good. The one thing for me to do is to deal with tone." And tone is really hard. When you get tone wrong, it's not like you can go reshoot it. You're just fucked. The movie's destroyed. My big concern was that there's so much comedy, and if it became too slapstick or too goofy, suddenly you don't care about those people trapped in Iran, because you know they're going to get saved. I always said the joke is the first thing to go. If it borderline does anything wrong to the rest of what we're doing, it has to go, even if it's gut-busting. After that, I just made sure that every moment felt real. I wanted these actors to feel that they were in this house in Tehran. So we went to all these cliché-Method lengths."

Jennifer Lopez Wants You To Curate Your Own T-Shirt On Teeology - Chip Chick

Jennifer Lopez Wants You To Curate Your Own T Shirt On Teeology

Looks like the science of T-shirts has finally been perfected in southern California, and Teeology is looking to share the fruits of their research in more ways than one.

Teeology is a new website that features T-shirts that will be sold directly from the manufacturers under the Teeology brand to consumers. For you, that means much lower prices on high-quality tees. How high of quality? Well, Jennifer Lopez is one of the lead curators of T-shirt designs for the site. I don’t know Jennifer Lopez personally, but if I had to hazard a guess, I’d say she doesn’t usually associate with subpar products.

The website is being launched by two fashion entrepreneurs, MJ Eng and Brian Lee, and two clothing and apparel manufacturers, Erica Zohar and Jeff Marine. Together with a lineup of curators led by Lopez, the group will create and sell their own T-shirts. There’s one more crucial member of the production process, and that would be the fashion-forward public. Teeology will accept designs from anyone and everyone â€" should your design be chosen, you’ll get $500 worth of compensation. The curators pick out the best designs, then put them up for a public vote. The highest rated shirts will be manufactured and sold. Should you pre-order a tee that wins one of the votes, you’ll be rewarded with free shipping. Democracy in action.

The people behind Teeology promise they’ll be using only the best materials, and everything will be printed and manufactured in Los Angeles. Tees will be mostly form-fitting, and will be sold starting at $29. You will need to sign up for a membership before you can buy anything, but the membership is free.

Jennifer Lopez Lets Katie Couric (& Us!) Into Her Closet - Glamour (blog)

Tuesday, 09/18/2012 10:22 AM

We've been privy to some pretty jaw-dropping celebrity closets around here--Kim Kardashian, Chloe Sevigny, Kimora Lee Simmons--but Jennifer Lopez just may be the Moby Dick of A-list wardrobes.

Katie Couric scored a serious coup on her new talk show, Katie, when J. Lo opened the doors of her home--and more importantly, her closet!--for the cameras:

I only wish they'd spent the entire hour touring her wardrobe...which, incidentally, is approximately the same size as my entire Manhattan apartment. What do you gals think of J. Lo's digs? Pretty swanky, huh?

Ben Affleck Burns Former Fiancée Jennifer Lopez! Calls Romance Lowest Point ... - PerezHilton.com

ben-affleck-jennifer-lopez-low-points-life-gigli

Low blow! We just can't actually believe her went there!

In the latest edition of Details Magazine, Ben Affleck finally opens up a bit about the years where he date â€" and almost married! â€" Jennifer Lopez, and the movie they made together Gigli!

Of course, it sounds like the Argo star actually wishes he could erase that time of his life from his and everyone else's memory as he literally says that the lowest points of his life were years he spent alongside J.Lo, in front and behind the camera.

Daaaaaamn! That's frosty!

In his interview, he was incredibly blunt about his feelings, sharing:

“[It] was definitely the annus horribilis. I got shorthanded as That Guy â€" Jennifer Lopez, movies bombed, therefore he must be a sort of thoughtless dilettante, solipsistic consumer, blah blah blah.”

Throwing shade at Jennifer aside, we can see where he's coming from that it would be absolutely exhausting being labeled like that.

It took him quite a while to climb out of that slump!

But, we feel like they're both in a better place now â€" and that they both learned from it!

So, in the end, we vote that it was worth it. Besides, what would life be like without Gigli?

LOLz!

Ben Affleck's worst year was with Jennifer Lopez, he says - VOXXI

Who knew Ben Affleck’s worst year would be the year he dated one of the hottest Hollywood starlets, Jennifer Lopez? The media’s love affair with the couple even birthed the nickname Bennifer.

benaffleckjenniferlopez Ben Afflecks worst year was with Jennifer Lopez, he says

Ben Affleck’s worst year was with Jennifer Lopez, the actor confesses to Details magazine. (AP Photo/Chris Pizzello)

Award-winning actor Ben Affleck tells Details magazine that 2003, the year he dated Jennifer Lopez, was his worst year ever. The 40-year-old actor and father of three with actress Jennifer Garner reflects on his relationship with Jennifer Lopez in the October issue of Details.

“In our culture, we get very much into shorthanding people. And I got shorthanded as That Guy: Jennifer Lopez, movies bombed, therefore he must be a sort of thoughtless dilettante, solipsistic consumer blahblahblah.

It’s hard to shake those sort of narratives. If you were looking at that one-liner on me in 2003, which was definitely the annus horribilis [laughs] of my life.”

Ben Affleck’s worst year: Bennifer

In Ben Affleck’s worst year, 2003,  he had a bad movie “Gigli,” a bad relationship with Jennifer Lopez and who can forget that infamous video “Jenny from the Block” where Affleck is caressing Jennifer Lopez’s assets on a yacht.  The paparazzi didn’t fall short on following 2003′s hottest couple, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, dubbed Bennifer by the media.

That year Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were in love and planned to marry on September 14, 2003 in Santa Barbara, Calif. in front of 400 guests, but the wedding was abruptly cancelled. The couple blamed it on leaks about the wedding to the paparazzi, however it was never rescheduled. Was that Ben Affleck’s worst year ever epiphany?

Several months later in January 2004, the media was hit with the Bennifer break up. Ben Affleck’s worst year ever was finally overâ€"it was actually 18-months long.

While Ben Affleck is best known for starring in and co-writing “Good Will Hunting” and winning an Oscar for his work, many people found it hard to consider him as a serious actor after dating Jennifer Lopez.

“People bring up 2003, and I get it. Jennifer Lopez, and Gigli, and all this shit just kind of blew up. But, you know, in 2003, Barack Obama was a state senator in Illinois! Okay.” Ben Affleck tells Details.

Be a Star, Then You Can Judge - New York Times

Years from now, Christina Aguilera will be remembered for her glamour, her scandalous take on femme-pop and her Brobdingnagian voice. But she should also be remembered as the person who almost single-handedly reshaped music-competition reality programming. Her legacy as a judge on “The Voice,” on NBC, may well turn out to be deeper and more profound than the one she’s forged in her music career.

Securing Ms. Aguilera in 2011 was a coup for a show that needed to differentiate itself from Fox’s “American Idol,” which had just signed Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez as judges.

But for all their fame, Mr. Tyler and Ms. Lopez were past their fertile period as hitmakers. Ms. Aguilera, though not quite in her prime, had been in the Billboard Top 10 as recently as 2008. Of the four mentor-judges of “The Voice,” she was the one most obviously slumming it on this television gig, even though she was coming off a bumpy professional period: a flop album, “Bionic”; an awkward and sloppy rendition of the national anthem at the 2011 Super Bowl; and an arrest on a charge of public intoxication.

But Ms. Aguilera was an undeniable contemporary pop star, and her presence elevated those around her: Blake Shelton, a country star largely unknown outside that world; Adam Levine, the frontman of a popular but ineffectual band, Maroon 5; and Cee Lo Green, accidentally, and briefly, a pop star as part of Gnarls Barkley.

Broadly speaking, it’s because of Ms. Aguilera that on Sunday, after weeks of speculation, it was announced that Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, contemporary hitmakers both, would become part of the “Idol” judge panel. (They effectively replace Mr. Tyler and Ms. Lopez.) They join Mariah Carey, who signed on in July and is now the panel’s unlikely éminence grise, and Randy Jackson, the lone holdover from “Idol” 1.0.

Ms. Aguilera’s shadow also extends over “The X Factor,” the Fox competition that last week gave its new judge-mentor panel its debut: the two older male executives, L. A. Reid and Simon Cowell, remain from Season 1, but the two women, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, have been replaced by more current names: the former Disney star Demi Lovato and the former Aguilera nemesis Britney Spears. Ms. Spears had a No. 1 album last year, and Ms. Lovato has had two Top 20 singles in the last 14 months.

It is no longer a choice between music star and television star. In fact, to be modern, it’s best to be a little of both. Ms. Aguilera, Ms. Spears, Ms. Minaj and Ms. Lovato are all more or less current pop stars. On a smaller scale, the same goes for Mr. Urban, Mr. Shelton, Mr. Green and Mr. Levine. Ms. Carey, while older and more experienced, is certainly still an active pop threat.

As a group, they’re using these shows not as a platform for stalled-career kick-starting, but as part of a portfolio of activities that reflect current music business realities. Network television â€" even on its worst day â€" is an extremely dangerous and powerful delivery platform, and one that must look even more attractive as the music industry struggles to sustain its thinning revenue streams.

Originally, these shows were viewed with skepticism, which is perhaps why no current stars initially signed on as judges. The goal of the competitions was to build a star â€" the judges were central to that narrative, but weren’t meant to create waves of their own. Then Simon Cowell emerged as the great television villain of the Bush years, and the dynamic tilted.

“The Voice” was essentially a heavy bet on the Cowell model, which stipulated that the starmaking was nice, sure, but it could be complemented by judges with their own narratives of celebrity. “Idol,” the only one of these shows in which the judges and contestants have no mentoring relationship, also remains the only one with even a hint of noncelebrity on the panel.

And why wouldn’t current stars flock to these series? They are ratings kingpins, even if they get only half the audience of “American Idol” in its prime. The music industry is good at anointing stars but doesn’t always have the scale to sustain them, especially lately.

And to appear regularly in prime time is an almost certain career boon. For Ms. Spears and Ms. Lovato (and Ms. Aguilera before them), the job has also been cleansing, replacing occasionally unsteady public images with those of responsibility and authority.

And, at some point, they may have new music to promote. Ms. Lopez’s single “On the Floor” reached No. 3 on the pop chart with heavy promotion on “Idol,” and Mr. Tyler’s group, Aerosmith, is on the verge of releasing its first album in eight years. Mr. Levine’s group Maroon 5 has had a string of “Voice”-assisted hits, including “Moves Like Jagger” and “Payphone.”

Last week Ms. Aguilera announced a new album, “Lotus” (RCA), to be released in November. In an interview that appeared on Billboard’s Web site (and was then removed), she indicated that she might be preparing to leave her chair on “The Voice,” at least for a spell.

Beginning to face questions about whether committing to “The Voice” means turning your back on your music career, one of the executive producers, Mark Burnett, insisted to Billboard, “There will never be anyone getting replaced, ever.” Mentors may take seasons off, though, to recharge their batteries, release new music and renew their relevance.

Nicki Minaj takes Jennifer Lopez's seat on 'American Idol' - VOXXI

American Idol announced its new panel of judges will include Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

NEW YORK (AP) â€"Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler’s empty seats as “American Idol” judges are now filled  by singer-rapper Nicki Minaj and country crooner Keith Urban.

The Fox network officially tapped the pair with an announcement Sunday, confirming rumors surrounding them both just hours before the first round of auditions for next season was due to begin in New York.

Nicki Minaj is getting $12 million for a one-year deal on the hit Fox singing series, a person in the music industry with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the deal.

A representative for Urban wouldn’t disclose the singer’s compensation for “American Idol.”

The announcement also settled the status of Randy Jackson. He will stay put as the sole remaining original “American Idol” judge, scotching rumors he might assume a different role on the popular talent competition.

(AP Phioto/Fox, Michael Becker)

‘American Idol’ judges panel expands

This trio will join pop star Mariah Carey at a judges’ panel now expanded to four members from its previous three. The AP reported in July that Carey is receiving just shy of $18 million for a one-year contract with a renewal option.

Arriving at Jazz at Lincoln Center, where the auditions would take place, Keith Urban hailed “American Idol” for its “great history of producing real stars.”

As an “American Idol” judge, he said he plans to be “authentic” but not cruel.

“I did similar shows when I was very young in Australia,” he recalled, “and I was sort of crucified by one judge. So I don’t know that I’ll ever be THAT guy.”

Nicki Minaj said during the auditions she’ll be looking for “a superstar,” which, she explained, is “something that can’t be defined in words.”

Jackson called this pair of hires a “fresh, fresh, fresh ‘Idol’ one-two!”

Nicki Minaj, he said, “brings a whole other cool vibe we’ve never had on the show, and Keith Urban? My God, he’s unbelievably talented!”

When Mariah Carey was asked whether she had eagerly awaited news of who would join her as judges, she cracked that, no, she hadn’t, “because all I really care about is me,” but quickly added, “Only kidding.”

Turning serious, she said she didn’t know what kind of judge she would be.

“Am I the mean one? Am I the nice one? … It’s not about me, me, me, it’s about them (the contestants) and what I can bring to them to help guide them in the right direction,” said Carey.

‘American Idol’ judges panel ‘diverse’

Ryan Seacrest will remain as host when the show returns for its 12th season in January.

“Last night,” he said, “we had a chance to really get together for the first time as a group. Everybody made a toast and talked about how special it was that they were here, and why they were here. So we’re off to a good start.”

Seacrest took note of “the serious and obvious diversity on this panel,” adding, “You can see just by the panel the kind of power the show has.”

The makeup of the panel has been in flux since Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announced their exits in July. Carey signed on later that month.

“I am thrilled about this year’s judges panel,” said Mike Darnell, Fox president of Alternative Entertainment. “With an unparalleled star like Mariah, fan-favorite Randy, chart-toppers like Nicki and Keith and our incomparable host Ryan, we’ve put together one of the most exciting judging panels around.”

“Idol” is looking for its famous new faces to supercharge a show that remains a ratings leader but has seen its viewership and pop-culture clout erode in recent seasons in an increasingly crowded talent show field. Besides Fox sibling “The X Factor,” which recently added Britney Spears and Demi Lovato as judges, there’s NBC’s “The Voice,” which boasts Christina Aguilera among its big names.

Nicki Minaj: A new kind of talent to American Idol

Nicki Minaj, 29, is known for her colorful hairstyles, wardrobe and antics. A native of Trinidad who grew up in New York, she has scored with hits like “Starships,” ”Turn Me On,” and “Super Bass,” her seventh single, which has sold more than 4 million copies.

She is the first female solo artist to have seven singles simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Nicki Minaj released her second studio album, “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,” in April, and since then it has sold 1 million copies worldwide.

The 44-year-old Urban has four Grammy Awards and 14 No. 1 hits, and was named Male Vocal Artist of the Year three times, as well as Entertainer of the Year, by the Country Music Association. His latest CD, “Get Closer,” has produced three consecutive No. 1 singles.

The New Zealand native is married to Australia-born film star Nicole Kidman.

“American Idol” ended the 2011-12 season as the leading entertainment show and No. 2 overall, just behind NBC’s top-rated “Sunday Night Football.”

But the show aired its least-watched finale ever and the advertiser-favored young adult audience has been steadily shrinking. The show’s cachet hasn’t been helped by a run of champions who have failed to achieve the career sizzle of past competitors Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson.

Lopez has now spoken about the split during her Friday appearance on Katie, saying she is "proud" of how they have handled the break-up.

"It was a really tough decision to make, and one that in your heart is always going to just affect you," she said. "You never want to break up a family. That wasn't my dream. My dream was for us to always be together.

"But things don't work out and you feel like it's the better choice. If I didn't feel it was the better choice then I wouldn't have done it."

Lopez, who revealed that she still believes in people living happily ever after, added: "We're doing good with it. We love our kids and we have love for each other and we always will. And we're friends. We were friends before and we're friends now - thank God that didn't change."

The singer, who is currently dating dancer Casper Smart, also confessed that she would consider getting wed again even though she has been married three times.

"I believe in love," she said. "I believe in marriage. I believe in that... I'm just trying to get it right, just like anybody else."

Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban are new 'Idol' judges, fill Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler slots

NEW YORK (AP) â€" The "American Idol" judges' panel is now complete with the naming of singer-rapper Nicki Minaj and country crooner Keith Urban.

The Fox network officially tapped the pair with an announcement Sunday, just hours before the first round of judging for next season was due to begin in New York.

The announcement also settles the status of Randy Jackson. He will stay put as the sole remaining original "Idol" judge, scotching rumors of a different role for him on the popular talent competition.

This trio joins newcomer Mariah Carey on a judges panel now expanded to four members from its previous three.

They fill vacancies left by Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, who announced their exits in July.

"American Idol" returns for its 12th season in January.

Jennifer Lopez laughs at mum's red carpet disaster at royal event - kjrh.com

JENNIFER LOPEZ will never forget the time she met British royals PRINCE WILLIAM and CATHERINE, DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE at a special event in Los Angeles because her mother tripped up on the red carpet - and it was all caught on camera.

The singing superstar took Guadalupe along to the British Academy of Film & Television Arts (BAFTA) party last summer (11), and dressed her up in an expensive gown and designer high heels by Christian Louboutin.

But Lopez quickly regretted forcing her mother to totter along in stilettos - because she ended up falling flat on her face in front of the world's paparazzi.

Recalling the horror of the event, Lopez tells talk show host Katie Couric, "I go to do my thing, I'm taking pictures on the red carpet and all of a sudden she's walking and then she just... trips on the red carpet in front of thousands of people! I'm like, 'Oh my god, are you OK?' They (the paparazzi) took so many pictures, they're filming as well..."

Luckily, Guadalupe wasn't injured and she simply laughed off the mishap moments after her red carpet disaster.

The On the Floor hitmaker says, "At first I was worried, of course. I was like, 'Mum, are you OK?' and then I was like, 'You gotta get up!' She got up and then started laughing hysterically."

And the Lopez family has been giggling about the incident ever since - thanks to the media's video footage of the fall, which was quickly posted online: "It's so funny, we laughed so much the next day."
